Cesare Alippi, Full Professor at the Faculty of Informatics at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and Scientific Director of the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI), has been selected to receive the prestigious Fellowship bestowed by the International Neural Network Society (INNS). An award given ‘for his outstanding achievements in the field of neural networks’.

The International Neural Network Society (INNS) is one of the world's leading technology associations, bringing together professionals, experts and researchers in the field of neural networks, planning and offering initiatives, conferences and scientific publications. Recently, the association's Board of Directors decided to raise Professor Allippi's status by including him in the College of Fellows. This is the highest degree of membership in the INNS and this recognition underlines his outstanding achievements in the field of neural networks. “Fellows,” emphasises the INNS, “are not only chosen for their technical contributions and past achievements, but also in consideration of their continued commitment to the association”.

For Alippi, this marks the fourth Fellowship in his career, joining those previously awarded by the IEEE, ELLIS (Europe) and AAIA (Asia). The USI professor will be honoured with his accolade at the awards banquet during the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN) 2025, to be held from 30 June to 5 July 2025 in Rome.

Cesare Alippi is Full Professor at USI's Faculty of Informatics and at the Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Visiting Professor at Guandong University of Technology, Guangzhou (China), and Advisory Professor at Northwestern Polytechnic in Xi'An (China). He has been Visiting Researcher / Professor at UCL (UK), MIT (USA), ESPCI (France), CASIA (China), A*STAR (Singapore) and UKobe (Japan). He is also the Scientific Director of the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI). Cesare Alippi is an IEEE Fellow (‘The world's largest technical professional organisation’) and an ELLIS Fellow and sits on the Board of Governors of the International Neural Network Society; he has served the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society in various roles, including as a member of the Administrative Committee, Vice-President and chair of the Awards committee. Alippi has received several international awards including the 2016 Gabor Award from the International Neural Network Society. His research is focused between machine learning and dedicated intelligent systems, with a focus on adaptation and learning in non-stationary environments, graph-based learning and Intelligence for embedded, cyber-physical systems and IoT. He holds eight patents, has published a monograph book (also translated into Chinese), edited seven books and is (co-)author of about 250 scientific papers in international journals and conference proceedings.
