Michele Parrinello, Professor Emeritus at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and ETH Zurich, is a leading contender for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. RSI News recently interviewed him in anticipation of the announcement on Wednesday, 9 October, by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Parrinello held the position of Professor of Computational Science at USI and ETH Zurich from 1 July 2001 until his retirement in December 2020. Upon his retirement, he was named Professor Emeritus at both institutions. Additionally, he served as the Director of CSCS Swiss National Supercomputing Centre in Manno. Parrinello has received multiple awards for his exceptional contributions to theoretical chemistry. He is particularly recognised for developing the Car-Parrinello method, which has revolutionised the study of molecular and atomic phenomena. Recently, he was included in the list of Citation Laureates 2024, an honour often associated with future Nobel Prize winners.

Below is the video of the interview with Michele Parrinello, who was guest on the in-depth news segment "Il Faro" on RSI news.
