An Algebraic Information Theory
Staff - Faculty of Informatics
Start date: 11 October 2013
End date: 12 October 2013
The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Jürg Kohlas
DATE: Friday, October 11th, 2013
PLACE: USI Lugano Campus, room SI-008, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 15.30
ABSTRACT:
There are different views on what information is. The particular approach presented in this talk is based on the view that information provides at least partial answers to questions and that pieces of information may come from different sources and should be aggregated.
This leads to an algebraic structure of information which has many important and interesting instances and models in Computer Science from universal logic to numerical analysis passing by combinatory problems.
In particular this algebra provides an axiomatic basis for a generic inference algorithm for all these instances, generalizing dynamic programming.
